FALLS THE SHADOW is a both a literal and figurative description of Ingram’s latest body of work. Heavily influenced by poetry and classic literature, the artist incorporates elements from T.S. Eliot’s, The Hollow Men, and the literary practice of beginning a narrative at the crucial moment of action, known as “in media res”, to create a collection of visual allegories highlighting the contemporary habit of acting on, and reacting to, information without consideration for context. Ingram’s distinctive style weaves aspects of surrealism, symbolism and classic literature into delicate and enigmatic imagery laden with nuance and significance. Thick with the tension of unrealized eventualities, each painting portrays meticulously rendered objects suspended, mid-motion, isolated and occasionally fragmented, casting shadows against bare walls in a state of perpetual aposiopesis.
The artist’s juxtaposition of disparate objects, both man-made and naturally occurring, exist together, without overt rationale, as an emblematic characterization of our current culture, where context has been relegated to secondary consideration and discrepant information feeds preemptive conclusions and reactions.
About the Artist:
Kieran Ingram (1989) born in Perth, Australia, currently lives and works in the UK. At the age of 17, Ingram was awarded a scholarship to study classical drawing and painting techniques at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. He completed his studies in 2009, and relocated to London where he established a studio and began exhibiting in the UK, Australia and the U.S. Kieran has received numerous awards for his work including the Emerging Artist Award, Cossack Art Awards, People's Choice Award, Buxton Spa Prize and Young Artist Prize, Midwest Art Awards and continues to exhibit internationally.
